Terms of Use

1. The Service

Lanno is a language-learning application that may provide vocabulary management, flashcards, reading tools, practice sessions, translations, pronunciation information, text and image processing, vocabulary extraction, AI-generated examples and explanations, synchronization, and related functionality.

Features may differ depending on device, operating system, location, account status, subscription, available credits, language pair, or Service version.

We may add, modify, limit, replace, or discontinue features from time to time subject to applicable law.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Lanno.

If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you may use Lanno only with permission of a parent or legal guardian. If applicable law requires parental or guardian consent for use of the Service or processing personal information, you may use the Service only after the required consent has been obtained.

The Service is not directed to children under 13.

3. Accounts and Anonymous Use

Some Lanno features may be available without creating a traditional registered account.

Lanno may create or maintain technical identifiers or an anonymous device-based account so that features such as synchronization, usage limits, entitlements, or other functionality can operate.

You may also be able to sign in using a supported authentication provider.

You are responsible for maintaining control over your account and credentials and for activity performed through your account.

Some data may be stored locally on your device. Data that has not been successfully synchronized or associated with a recoverable account may be lost if you delete Lanno, erase or replace your device, lose access to your device, or remove local application data.

4. User Content

“User Content” means text, images, documents, vocabulary, notes, reading material, translations, prompts, files, and other material that you submit, upload, enter, photograph, import, or otherwise provide through the Service.

Lanno has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users.

Your ownership

You retain any ownership rights you have in your User Content. Lanno does not claim ownership of your User Content merely because you submit it to the Service.

License needed to provide the Service

You grant Lanno a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, store, copy, transmit, process, transform, and otherwise use your User Content solely as reasonably necessary to:

• operate and provide the Service;
• synchronize content between devices;
• perform translation, vocabulary extraction, language analysis, and other requested functionality;
• generate flashcards, examples, explanations, or other requested output;
• process requests using service providers acting on our behalf;
• maintain security, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, and provide support; and
• comply with applicable law.

This license does not transfer ownership of your User Content to Lanno.

Subject to reasonable backup, security, legal, and technical retention requirements, this license ends when the relevant User Content is permanently deleted and is no longer reasonably necessary for the purposes above.

5. Your Responsibility for Submitted Content

You are responsible for User Content you submit to Lanno.

You represent that you have the rights, permissions, licenses, or other lawful basis necessary to submit and process that content through the Service.

You must not use Lanno to upload, reproduce, distribute, or process content in a manner that unlawfully infringes another person’s copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights.

You must not submit User Content that is unlawful, defamatory, discriminatory, threatening, harassing, bullying, hateful, sexually explicit, pornographic, violent, fraudulent, or otherwise objectionable.

Users may report objectionable User Content using the reporting tools available in the Service. We will review reports and respond in a timely manner.

Lanno does not grant you ownership of, or additional rights to, third-party material merely because the Service analyzes, translates, extracts vocabulary from, summarizes, or otherwise processes that material.

6. AI and Automated Features

Lanno may use artificial intelligence, machine learning, dictionaries, language models, algorithms, and other automated systems to provide features such as translation, vocabulary extraction, phrase detection, definitions, examples, pronunciation information, grammar analysis, text analysis, image analysis, and learning recommendations.

AI and automated systems are probabilistic and may make mistakes.

Outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, unnatural, outdated, duplicated, inappropriate for a particular context, or otherwise incorrect.

Lanno does not guarantee the accuracy of any translation, definition, transcription, pronunciation, vocabulary item, example sentence, grammatical explanation, language classification, or other automatically generated result.

You should review AI-generated or automatically generated material before relying on it.

Different users may receive identical or similar AI-generated outputs. Lanno does not guarantee that AI-generated content is unique.

Lanno is a learning tool and does not guarantee any particular educational result, level of fluency, examination result, certification, academic performance, or other learning outcome.

7. Third-Party AI and Service Providers

Lanno may rely on third-party service providers for infrastructure, authentication, payments, analytics, translation, artificial intelligence, content processing, storage, synchronization, or other functionality.

When necessary to complete a request, information you submit may be transmitted to and processed by those providers.

Our handling of personal information and our use of service providers are further described in our Privacy Policy.

Lanno does not control the continued availability or operation of third-party services and is not responsible for outages, changes, errors, restrictions, or discontinuation caused by third-party providers.

8. AI Usage, Limits, and Credits

Certain Lanno features may require credits or may be subject to usage limits.

A “Credit” is a limited digital entitlement that may be used for eligible functionality within Lanno.

Credits:

• are not money or legal tender;
• have no cash value outside Lanno;
• may not be redeemed for cash except where required by law;
• may not be sold, transferred, traded, or exchanged between users unless Lanno expressly permits it; and
• may be subject to technical, account, feature, or usage restrictions.

The number of credits required for a particular operation may depend on the feature and may change prospectively.

Credits are not consumed for a credit-based operation that fails or is canceled before completion. Any credits reserved for that operation will be released. An operation that completes after retries, fallbacks, or partial provider failures may still consume credits for the successful processing used to complete it.

Where practical, Lanno will display or otherwise make available applicable credit requirements before the relevant operation is submitted.

We may change the number of credits required for future operations, introduce new credit-based features, or discontinue existing credit-based features.

Promotional, bonus, complimentary, trial, or otherwise non-purchased credits may have separate limits, expiration rules, or conditions and may be changed or withdrawn as permitted by law.

Any expiration or special restrictions applicable to purchased credits will be disclosed at or before purchase.

Credits do not represent an ownership interest in Lanno and do not constitute a bank account, stored-value account, security, cryptocurrency, or other financial instrument.

9. Purchases

Certain features may be available through paid purchases, including subscriptions and consumable purchases such as credit packages.

Purchases made through the Apple App Store or another third-party platform are processed by that platform and are also subject to its applicable terms and payment policies.

Prices and available products may vary by country, currency, platform, taxes, and other factors.

10. Subscriptions

Lanno may offer automatically renewing subscriptions (“Premium” or similar paid plans).

The benefits included with a subscription will be described at the time of purchase.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, a subscription does not necessarily include unlimited AI processing, unlimited credits, or unlimited use of resource-intensive functionality.

Subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store are billed and renewed through your Apple account.

The subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple account will be charged within 24 hours before the end of the current period.

You can manage or cancel an App Store subscription through your Apple account subscription settings.

Deleting Lanno or deleting your Lanno account does not automatically cancel an App Store subscription.

If we materially change subscription benefits or pricing, changes will apply in accordance with applicable law and platform requirements.

11. Trials and Promotional Offers

Lanno may offer free trials, introductory pricing, promotional credits, offer codes, or other promotions.

Eligibility and terms may vary.

If a free trial converts into a paid auto-renewing subscription, the applicable purchase interface will disclose the duration of the trial and the price that applies afterward.

12. Refunds

Purchases made through the Apple App Store or another platform are subject to the refund procedures and policies of that platform and applicable law.

Lanno cannot guarantee that Apple or another payment platform will approve a refund request.

Nothing in these Terms limits any refund, cancellation, withdrawal, or other consumer right that cannot legally be waived.

13. Acceptable Use

You may use Lanno only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.

You may not:

• violate applicable law or another person’s rights;
• submit material that you do not have the legal right to process;
• interfere with, overload, disrupt, damage, or circumvent the Service or its infrastructure;
• bypass subscription, credit, quota, account, security, rate-limit, or technical restrictions;
• fraudulently obtain subscriptions, credits, entitlements, refunds, or other benefits;
• use automated systems to access the Service at a volume or manner not expressly authorized by Lanno;
• probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service without authorization;
• reverse engineer the Service except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by law;
• distribute malware or malicious code;
• impersonate another person;
• submit or publish objectionable content or engage in abusive behavior;
• use the Service for fraud, abuse, harassment, or other unlawful activity; or
• resell or commercially exploit access to the Service unless expressly authorized.

We may remove or restrict User Content and block abusive users from the Service, including by restricting or permanently disabling their ability to publish community content, and may suspend or terminate their accounts as described in these Terms.

14. Intellectual Property

Except for User Content and third-party material, Lanno and the Service—including its software, interface, design, branding, logos, graphics, original text, databases, functionality, and other materials—are owned by or licensed to Lanno and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to access and use the Service for its intended purposes.

Some dictionaries, lexical resources, software components, or other materials used by Lanno may be provided under separate third-party or open-source licenses.

15. AI-Generated Output

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Lanno does not claim ownership over AI-generated output created specifically in response to your use of the Service.

However, laws regarding ownership and copyrightability of AI-generated material vary, and Lanno makes no representation that any particular output is eligible for copyright protection or that you will have exclusive rights to it.

16. Feedback

If you voluntarily provide suggestions, ideas, bug reports, feature requests, or other feedback about Lanno, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free right to use that feedback to develop, improve, operate, market, and provide Lanno without compensation or obligation to you.

This section does not give us ownership of your private User Content.

17. Availability and Changes to the Service

We aim to provide a reliable Service, but we do not guarantee that Lanno will always be available.

The Service may be interrupted because of maintenance, software defects, infrastructure failures, third-party outages, security incidents, network problems, changes to operating systems, force majeure events, or other circumstances.

We may modify, update, remove, suspend, or discontinue features or portions of the Service, subject to applicable law and obligations relating to paid services.

18. Data and Synchronization

Lanno may provide synchronization and cloud-storage functionality for convenience.

Synchronization is not a guaranteed backup service.

Software errors, network failures, conflicts, device failures, account problems, third-party outages, or other circumstances may result in delayed synchronization, conflicts, corruption, or loss of data.

You are responsible for maintaining copies of information that would be important to you if lost.

We do not guarantee that deleted material can be restored.

19. Account Suspension and Termination

You may stop using Lanno at any time.

Where available, you may request deletion of your account through the Service or by contacting us.

We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access if we reasonably believe that you materially violated these Terms; your use creates a security or legal risk; your activity appears fraudulent or abusive; continuing to provide the Service would violate law or a third-party requirement; or suspension is reasonably necessary to protect Lanno, users, or others.

20. Account Deletion and Paid Purchases

Deleting your Lanno account may permanently remove synchronized User Content and other account data, subject to our Privacy Policy, legal obligations, technical backups, and retention requirements.

Account deletion does not automatically cancel subscriptions billed by Apple or another payment provider.

Treatment of unused paid credits following account deletion or termination will be subject to applicable law, the circumstances of termination, and any terms disclosed when those credits were purchased.

21. Third-Party Services and Links

Lanno may interact with or provide access to third-party services, authentication providers, websites, content, dictionaries, payment systems, AI providers, or other resources.

Third-party services are governed by their own terms and privacy practices.

We do not control and are not responsible for third-party products or services, their content, security, availability, accuracy, or practices.

22. Apple App Store

If you download Lanno through the Apple App Store, your license to use the Lanno application is also subject to Apple’s applicable App Store terms and the Apple Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, unless a separate custom end-user license agreement is expressly provided for Lanno.

These Terms govern your relationship with Lanno regarding the Lanno Service, accounts, subscriptions, credits, content, and related functionality.

23. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, YOU USE LANNO AT YOUR OWN RISK.

THE SERVICE, APPLICATION, AI FEATURES, AUTOMATED OUTPUTS, CONTENT, SYNCHRONIZATION, AND ALL RELATED FUNCTIONALITY ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LANNO DISCLAIMS ALL EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, AND OTHER WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AVAILABILITY, RELIABILITY, SECURITY, AND QUIET ENJOYMENT.

WITHOUT LIMITING THE ABOVE, WE DO NOT WARRANT OR GUARANTEE THAT:

• the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free;
• defects will always be corrected;
• data will never be lost, corrupted, duplicated, or improperly synchronized;
• translations, definitions, examples, transcriptions, pronunciation information, vocabulary extraction, grammar analysis, or other output will be accurate;
• AI-generated output will be unique, complete, appropriate, or free from third-party rights;
• the Service will meet your particular requirements;
• use of Lanno will produce any particular learning or other result; or
• third-party services used by Lanno will remain available or unchanged.

Some jurisdictions do not permit certain warranty disclaimers. In those jurisdictions, these disclaimers apply only to the maximum extent permitted by law.

24. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LANNO, ITS CONTRACTORS, SERVICE PROVIDERS, LICENSORS, AND REPRESENTATIVES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE.

This includes damages arising from loss or corruption of data; loss of profits, revenue, business, opportunity, or goodwill; inability to access or use the Service; reliance on incorrect translations, AI output, language content, or other results; unauthorized access to or alteration of data; service interruptions; third-party services; device or software failures; or other intangible or consequential loss.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LANNO’S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU ACTUALLY PAID FOR THE SERVICE DURING THE 12 MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.

The limitations in this section apply regardless of legal theory and even if Lanno has been advised that such damages may occur.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including non-waivable rights under applicable consumer law.

25. Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Lanno, its contractors, licensors, service providers, and representatives from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and reasonable expenses arising from your unlawful use of the Service; material violation of these Terms; User Content submitted in violation of another person’s rights; or fraudulent, abusive, or intentionally harmful activity performed through your account.

This section does not require a consumer to indemnify Lanno where such an obligation would be prohibited by applicable law.

26. Consumer Rights

Nothing in these Terms is intended to waive or restrict a right that applicable law does not permit you to waive.

If you are entitled to mandatory consumer protections where you live, those protections continue to apply.

27. Copyright Concerns

If you believe material processed or made available through Lanno infringes your intellectual property rights, contact us at support@lanno.app and provide enough information to identify the material and explain the basis of your concern.

28. Export and Legal Compliance

You may not use, export, or provide the Service in violation of applicable export-control, sanctions, trade, or other laws.

29. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as Lanno evolves or when necessary to address changes in our Service, business practices, technology, legal requirements, security, or other circumstances.

The current version will be made available through the Service or our website and will include its effective date.

If a change materially affects your rights or obligations, we may provide additional notice where required by law.

30. Governing Law and Disputes

Except where mandatory consumer law provides otherwise, these Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or the Service will be governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Except where applicable law permits you to bring a claim elsewhere, disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Orange County, California.

Before filing a formal legal claim, we encourage you to contact us at support@lanno.app so that we can attempt to resolve the issue informally.

31. Force Majeure

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lanno will not be responsible for failure or delay caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control.

32. Assignment

You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent.

We may assign these Terms in connection with a transfer of the Lanno business, subject to applicable law.

33. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, invalid, or unlawful, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted by law or modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable. The remaining provisions will remain in effect.

34. No Waiver

Our failure to enforce a provision of these Terms does not waive our right to enforce that provision later.

35. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any additional terms expressly presented for a specific feature, purchase, promotion, or service, constitute the agreement between you and Lanno regarding the Service.

For applications obtained through a third-party platform, applicable platform terms and license agreements may also apply.
