Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 6, 2026
Lanno (“Lanno,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a language-learning application operated by Andrii Bondarets, an independent developer based in California, United States.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the Lanno mobile application, website, accounts, synchronization, artificial intelligence features, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
1. Information We Collect
Account and authentication information
Lanno creates an anonymous, device-linked account when needed to provide the Service. If you choose to sign in, we may receive your name, email address, profile image, and provider-specific account identifier from Apple or Google, or your email address when you use email sign-in. We do not receive your Apple or Google password.
We also process account and session identifiers, device identifiers, app version, platform, IP address, user agent, sign-in and synchronization timestamps, and security records used to authenticate requests, keep devices synchronized, enforce limits, and prevent abuse.
Learning data and content
We process the content you choose to create, import, publish, or study, including vocabulary, flashcards, translations, examples, notes, deck and reading titles, imported and reading text, language selections, settings, practice history, review results, and learning progress.
If you use the AI camera, the selected photograph is uploaded for text recognition and language processing. If you submit a content report, we process the selected reason, any note you provide, and a snapshot of the reported content needed to review the report.
Purchases and subscriptions
Apple processes App Store payments. We receive transaction and product identifiers, purchase and subscription status, dates, and entitlement information needed to provide Premium features and credits. We do not receive or store your full payment-card details.
Diagnostics and service usage
We process error reports, diagnostic context, authentication and synchronization events, rate-limit and security events, feature request metadata, and AI request metadata such as provider, model, token counts, duration, status, and estimated cost. Lanno’s server-side AI request logs do not store the full prompt or model response.
2. Information Stored or Processed on Your Device
Lanno is designed to work offline for many learning activities. Learning materials, progress, preferences, and other app data may be stored locally on your device. Authentication tokens are stored in the device Keychain.
Some features use Apple frameworks on the device, including Vision for local text recognition, system text-to-speech, and Apple Translation when available. Content processed entirely by those on-device frameworks is not sent to Lanno solely for that local operation.
Deleting the app removes its local application data but does not by itself delete information already synchronized to Lanno’s servers or cancel an App Store subscription.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- create and secure anonymous or signed-in accounts;
- store and synchronize learning materials across devices;
- provide imports, readings, flashcards, practice scheduling, translations, examples, pronunciation, and text-to-speech;
- process requested AI features, including text and image analysis;
- publish content you deliberately submit to Lanno’s community catalogue;
- manage subscriptions, purchases, credits, and usage limits;
- review content reports and protect users from abuse;
- diagnose errors, maintain reliability, and improve performance;
- prevent fraud, misuse, and unauthorized access; and
- respond to support requests and comply with legal obligations.
4. Artificial Intelligence and Voice Processing
When you request an AI-powered feature, Lanno sends only the content and context needed to provide that feature to the applicable provider.
OpenAI
Lanno uses the OpenAI API for features such as language analysis, vocabulary extraction, translations, examples, and AI camera text recognition. Depending on the feature, OpenAI may receive words, phrases, imported or reading text, a selected photograph, source and target languages, and nearby context. Lanno configures its runtime Responses API requests not to store application state. OpenAI states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default, unless the API customer opts in, and that default abuse-monitoring logs may be retained for up to 30 days. See OpenAI’s API data controls.
ElevenLabs
If you enable AI Voice and request speech, Lanno sends the text to pronounce and the selected voice settings to ElevenLabs. Lanno does not send a recording of your voice for this feature. The resulting audio may be cached in Lanno’s cloud storage so it can be delivered efficiently. See ElevenLabs’ Privacy Policy.
Do not submit passwords, payment-card details, medical records, or other highly sensitive information to AI-powered features. AI-generated content may be inaccurate.
5. When We Share Information
We disclose information only as needed to operate the Service, at your direction, or when required by law. Our service providers include:
- OpenAI, for requested AI language and image processing;
- ElevenLabs, for requested AI text-to-speech;
- DigitalOcean, for server, database, and audio-object hosting — see DigitalOcean’s Privacy Policy;
- Sentry, for app error reporting and diagnostics — see Sentry’s Privacy Policy;
- Apple, for Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, subscriptions, and platform services — see Apple’s Privacy Policy; and
- Google, when you choose Google Sign-In — see Google’s Privacy Policy.
We may also disclose information to comply with applicable law or valid legal process, or when reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the Service, or others.
Lanno does not sell personal information, share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, display third-party advertising, or use advertising SDKs to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
6. Community and Public Content
If you deliberately publish a deck to Lanno’s community catalogue, the published snapshot and the publisher information shown by the feature become visible to other users. Do not publish personal or confidential information. Removing a publication or deleting your account removes the publication from Lanno’s active catalogue, although information previously copied or saved by another person may remain outside our control.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain account and learning data while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. Individual decks, readings, and imports moved to Recently Deleted remain recoverable for up to 30 days before their content is purged.
An AI camera photograph is stored only until the import job successfully reads it. If processing fails, the photograph is retained so you can retry and is removed when the import is deleted and purged.
When you request account deletion in the app, Lanno immediately marks the account deleted, revokes its sessions, disconnects its sign-in identities, and queues the account and its server-side content for permanent deletion. This includes synchronized learning content, progress, AI request metadata, reports, subscription and credit records, and community publications associated with the account. Deleting your Lanno account does not cancel an Apple subscription.
Expired or revoked authentication sessions, including their IP address and user agent, and email-verification challenges, including their email address and request IP, are normally deleted after 7 days. Inactive anonymous accounts without server learning data may be deleted after 30 days of inactivity; inactive anonymous accounts with server learning data may be deleted after 90 days.
Information may remain temporarily in security records, provider systems, or operational backups until their applicable retention period or backup rotation ends, and we may retain information longer when required by law or reasonably necessary to investigate abuse or resolve disputes. Service providers apply their own retention terms.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information, including encrypted network transport, hashed refresh tokens and email sign-in codes, Keychain storage for app credentials, access controls, and revocation of all sessions when an account is deleted.
No transmission or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your Choices and Privacy Rights
You can edit or delete many learning materials and settings in the app. You can request deletion of your account and synchronized data through the account-deletion control in Settings. App Store subscriptions must be managed separately through Apple.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a portable copy of certain personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a privacy request, email support@lanno.app. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
10. International Processing
Lanno is operated from the United States. Information may be processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate. Those countries may have data-protection laws different from the laws where you live. Where required, we rely on legally recognized safeguards for international transfers.
11. Legal Bases for Processing
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process information as necessary to provide the Service and perform our agreement with you; for legitimate interests such as securing, maintaining, and improving the Service; with consent where required; and to comply with legal obligations. The applicable basis depends on the information and the reason it is processed.
12. Children’s Privacy
Lanno is not directed to children under 13, and you must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you may use Lanno only with permission of a parent or legal guardian and after any consent required by applicable law has been obtained.
If we learn that we collected personal information from a child in violation of applicable law, we will take appropriate steps to delete it. A parent or guardian may contact us at support@lanno.app.
13. California Privacy Rights
California residents may have rights under applicable California privacy laws to request information about our collection, use, and disclosure of personal information and to request access, correction, or deletion. We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To submit a request, email support@lanno.app.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the Service, our data practices, or legal requirements. We will update the “Last updated” date when we do. If a change materially affects your privacy rights or how we process information, we will provide additional notice when required by law.
